Parra To Join Sounds, Narveson Called Up
Date Posted: 6/13/2009
Left-handed starting pitcher Manny Parra was optioned to the Sounds this evening by the Milwaukee Brewers and is scheduled to join Nashville on Monday.
The 26-year-old hurler went 3-8 with a 7.52 ERA (54er/64.2ip) in 13 starts for the Brewers this season, allowing a .311 batting average to Major League opponents.
Nashville left-hander Chris Narveson had his contract purchased by the Brewers to replace Parra.
Narveson -- who went 3-3 with five saves and a 3.38 ERA (15er/40.0ip) in 20 relief outings for Nashville -- will pitch in the Brewers' bullpen, not the rotation. Because of two upcoming off days, Milwaukee won't need a fifth starter until the last week of the month.
Parra lasted just 1 2/3 innings in a 7-1 Interleague loss to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon at Miller Park, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks in his fourth straight loss. The southpaw couldn't get out of the second inning, when the White Sox sent 11 hitters to the plate and scored six runs on five hits.
With Saturday's loss, Parra fell to 0-4 with a 13.50 earned run average in his final five starts for Milwaukee. In 21 1/3 innings during that span, he allowed 40 hits, 32 earned runs, and 15 walks while posting 16 strikeouts.
Parra previously appeared with Nashville during the 2007 season, when he went 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA in four starts and etched his name into the record books by tossing a perfect game for the Sounds on June 25th of that year at Round Rock.
