Sounds, Applebee's Honor Community "Heroes"
Date Posted: 8/11/2007
Before Saturday night's game, the Nashville Sounds and Applebee’s honored the team's “Neighborhood Hero Of The Year” and “Home Team Hero Of The Year” award recipients for the 2007 season.
An “Applebee’s Neighborhood Hero” is a member of the community who is “doing good in the neighborhood.” Neighborhood Heroes are people who help make our community a better place to live.
At a designated game each month this season, the Sounds honored a fan during an on-field ceremony. On Saturday, the team honored the “Neighborhood Hero of the Year.” The 2007 Hero Of The Year is Bubba Perry.
Bubba Perry hosts the “Big Bubba’s Bash” softball tournament in Hendersonville each spring as a benefit for Make-A-Wish of Middle Tennessee. This past spring, they were able to raise over $10,000 to go towards fulfilling the wishes of some very deserving children.
As the “Neighborhood Hero Of The Year”, Applebee’s and the Sounds presented Bubba with a gift basket and extended VIP treatment for him and his guests at Saturday's game.
The second presentation was made to the “Applebee’s Home Team Hero Of The Year.” The Home Team Hero is the player who exemplified the community spirit of the Nashville Sounds organization.
The “Applebee’s Home Team Hero” for 2007 is second baseman Callix Crabbe. The Nashville community has been fortunate to have Callix as a member of the Sounds team this year. He is the type of player on and off the field that young athletes can look up to and has made numerous community appearances at hospitals, youth clinics, sponsor events, and churches throughout the summer.
Callix, who was previously selected as the Sounds' Home Team Hero for the month of April, was presented with a special plaque honoring this achievement. In addition, the first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles on Saturday received a limited-edition commemorative print of Crabbe, courtesy of Applebee’s.
