The purpose of the Nashville Sounds Reading Club program is to tie children's natural affection for baseball to the bigger goal of promoting literacy and encouraging a lifelong love for reading.
The program supports area schools in their ongoing endeavor to build strong readers by creating exciting incentives and rewards for children who continue to read more throughout the year.

How It Works

The program is based on reaching bases on a baseball diamond with home plate the final goal. Individual
schools and/or teachers will decide what it takes to reach each base. Suggested guidelines may focus
on number of books read, number of pages read or number of newspaper articles read.
Students will earn incentives for each base reached ending with a home run and a FREE TICKET
TO A NASHVILLE SOUNDS BASEBALL GAME!
Members of the Sounds Reading Club who attend a game with their group will also participate in a
pre-game parade acknowledging their achievements.

Special guest appearance by Ozzie, the Sounds' mascot, or a member of the Sounds'
front office staff is available as motivation throughout the program.

The number of active schools in the Sounds Reading Club has increased in each year of its
existence. Student/school participation is detailed below:
- 1998 - 66,000 students participated from 184 schools
- 1999 - 52,000 students participated from 160 schools
- 2000 - 59,000 students participated from 170 schools
- 2001 - 68,366 students participated from 196 schools
- 2002 - 78,705 students participated from 241 schools
- 2003 - 83,565 students participated from 257 schools
- 2004 - 94,028 students participated from 305 schools
- 2005 - 126,758 students participated from 390 schools
- 2006 - 131,694 students participated from 423 schools
- 2007 - 137,021 students particpated from 432 schools
